Training the Untrainable Webinar - 1 May 2019
SCA's next webinar to be held on Wednesday 1 May 2019 is titled, Training the Untrainable: The Effects of Cross-Education Training in Muscular Strength and is presented by Dr Chiara Tomassoni.
Ipsilateral strength training has been shown to cross-transfer on the untrained limb. It provides for increased activation, muscular strength, and corticospinal excitability. These effects are important factors in improving patient outcomes post-injury, and should not be ignored when considering rehabilitation strategies.
- Review of the basic physiology behind cross-education training
- Understanding the effects of ipsilateral strength training on contralateral limb strength
- Recognising the role of cross-education training in injury rehabilitation
Dr Tomassoni is a Sports Chiropractor from Melbourne who graduated from RMIT in 2012. She has worked with her family in their multidisciplinary practices in Melbourne and rural Victoria, while working with various sporting codes including Soccer and Netball.
Chiara's passion is working in multidisciplinary environments treating athletes at multi-sport events, which drove her to complete her ICCSP and Strength & Conditioning Accreditation.
