Spinal Health Week (formerly National Chiropractic Care Week)
A healthy spine means a healthier life. Spinal Health Week, a
national initiative run by the Chiropractors' Association of Australia,
is for chiropractors to educate Australians about the importance of
spinal health in improving overall health and wellness.
Spinal Health Week 2013 - 20th to 26th May
LET'S GET BACK TO OUR
BEST
This year's theme,Let's Get Back to Our
Best, will focus on the benefits of improving
postural fitness as well as speaking to the broader public of the need
to support chiropractic care and research.
Launching Spinal Health Week 2013, Andrew
McNamara, CEO of the Chiropractors' Association of Australia said,
"Australians have got it right and sitting may well be the new
smoking".
BACK PAIN AND PREVENTATIVE HEALTH: TIME TO START A
CONVERSATION
You and I know back pain
has serious consequences for families, jobs and quality of
life.
Did you know two million
Australians are affected by back pain every year?
The problem is large, the
ailment common.
People with back problems
report 2.5 times more disorders, such as depression. Indigenous
Australians are 25% more likely to report back problems.
The question we are asking this year for Spinal Health Week is -
are we doing enough?
As individuals, are we
doing enough to prevent injury and improve our postural fitness?
Consider the exercises that build your core. Consider too, the
way you sit.
As a nation, are we
investing enough in preventing back and neck injury? Would such an
investment yield real benefits for productivity? Is more public
investment in Chiropractic care and research part of the
solution?
The CAA believes that one
of the most powerful ways to address preventative health is to impove
our postural fitness.
